WhatsApp is arguably the world’s most popular communication app. Almost everyone in Nigeria now uses WhatsApp, no matter how old or young they are (even my grandma uses Whatsapp).

WhatsApp has already replaced SMS and fast becoming a primary mode of communication. It would be smart to leverage on this and use it as a platform to market your business.

How do you go about selling on WhatsApp?

  1. Create or join a WhatsApp group.

You can create an online sellers group or join an already existing one. On this group, you get to network with other sellers and people who may need your products, market your goods and exchange business insights.

  1. Market your goods on your WhatsApp status.

This is similar to your Instagram or Snapchat story. You can share photos and videos to your contacts, for a period of 24 hours, after which the photos and videos will disappear.. Showcase pictures and videos of your products, as well as quick demos of how your products can benefit its users. Interested buyers will contact you after viewing your status updates.

  1. Send WhatsApp broadcast messages.

If you want to send a personal message to all or most of your contacts, but you don’t want the stress of copying and pasting it to everyone, you can send bulk messages by sending a WhatsApp broadcast. To do this, you create lists related to a specific product or topic, and then send write-ups designed to give insight to your contacts regarding your product or service and increase engagement, just like you do on Twitter. You can also include links or invitations in your messages.

  1. Send a direct message (DM).

With direct messaging, you can send personalized messages about your products and services to your prospects or customers. While you do this, remember not to overdo things and be considerate of your customers so that you don’t spam them or piss them off.

  1. Cold call your potential customers, and call your existing contacts to market your products.

WhatsApp has a call feature that allows you to call anyone for free. To cold call is to make a random call to a prospective customer or client in order to market your products and services to them. It’s a great way to follow up with customers and it allows customers to call in for free when they need to speak with someone on your team regarding your products and services.
